World Museum is one of the most wide-ranging and spectacular museums in the United Kingdom, and part of National Museums Liverpool. Founded in 1851 from the 13th Earl of Derby's natural history collection, and housed in a grand Victorian building on William Brown Street, it welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and encompasses collections covering archaeology, ethnology, natural history, the physical sciences and space. With its iconic Planetarium and the remarkable Natural History Centre, it offers a depth and diversity of experience that makes it as absorbing for adults as it is for families with children.

Among the highlights are the ancient Egypt galleries, home to genuine mummies and ancient artefacts spanning thousands of years; the Bug House, where visitors can see a wealth of living invertebrates including giant millipedes and leaf-cutter ants; and the aquarium, featuring freshwater species from across the globe. The museum's ethnology collections include Japanese samurai armour, objects from the Americas and Oceania, and treasures from cultures across Asia and Africa. The Planetarium presents spectacular shows about the universe, solar system and the wonders of space.

World Museum sits on William Brown Street alongside the Walker Art Gallery and the William Brown Library - one of the finest civic cultural quarters in Europe. It is directly opposite St George's Hall and just minutes from Liverpool Lime Street station, making it one of the most conveniently located major museums in the country. A café and shop are available on site. The museum is fully accessible throughout, with lifts, accessible toilets and other facilities where required.
