Wavertree Botanic Gardens in Liverpool
Wavertree Botanic Gardens is a charming 19th century public park that gives visitors a sense of the garden that once played a central role in the recreational and cultural life of Liverpool, before the great glasshouses were lost during World War 2. It remains a peaceful and characterful green space with plenty of historic interest.
Walled garden and ornamental grounds
The walled botanic garden is the heart of the site, surrounded by ornamental carpet bedding, a fountain, summerhouse, fish pond and aviary. The Grade II listed curator's lodge and remaining glasshouse structures add to the historic atmosphere throughout the grounds.
Statues
The gardens are home to the Tam O'Shanter and Souter Johnny statues, a notable feature worth seeking out during a visit.
Playground
A children's play area features swings, a multi-play frame, junior multi-play, roundabout and spring mobile - a good option for families visiting with younger children.
